FAQ

General+
What is Deskgrad?+

Deskgrad is a desktop experience platform that lets you personalize your workspace with interactive plugins created by the community. Discover, add, and install plugins that add visual effects, animations, widgets, and other desktop enhancements through a single application.

How does Deskgrad work?+

Getting started is simple. First, create a Deskgrad account on the website. Then download and install the Deskgrad application on your computer. Any plugins you own will automatically appear in your inventory, where you can install, update, enable, or disable them directly from the app.

Is Deskgrad free to use?+

Yes. Both the Deskgrad website and desktop application are free to use during alpha. Marketplace plugins available in alpha are free to add to your library.

Which operating systems does Deskgrad support?+

Deskgrad currently supports Windows. Native support for macOS is planned as one of our next major milestones. Additional platforms may be considered in the future based on community demand.

Does Deskgrad affect my computer's performance?+

Deskgrad is designed to have a minimal impact on system performance. Most plugins use only a small amount of CPU and memory, while more advanced plugins may require additional resources depending on their complexity.

Security is also a core part of Deskgrad's design. The application only uses internet access to authenticate your account, communicate with the official Deskgrad marketplace, and securely download plugins and updates. Every plugin is verified before installation to help ensure its integrity, and all plugins published on the marketplace go through a review process before becoming available to users.

Plugins+
What are plugins?+

Plugins are desktop enhancements created by the Deskgrad community. They can add visual effects, interactive animations, widgets, audio responses, cursor effects, and many other ways to personalize your desktop experience.

How do I install a plugin?+

After adding a plugin from the Deskgrad marketplace, it will automatically appear in your inventory. Open the Deskgrad application, navigate to your library, and install the plugin with a single click. Once installed, you can enable, disable, update, or uninstall it at any time.

Are Deskgrad plugins safe?+

Yes. Every plugin submitted to the official Deskgrad marketplace is reviewed before it becomes available to users. All plugins are distributed exclusively through the official marketplace, and every downloaded file is verified before installation to help ensure its integrity. Plugins cannot be published or updated without passing the Deskgrad review process.

Do plugins update automatically?+

When a creator publishes a new approved version of a plugin, Deskgrad automatically detects the available update. You can install the latest version directly from the application to receive new features, improvements, and bug fixes.

Can I uninstall or disable a plugin?+

Yes. You have full control over every installed plugin. You can temporarily disable a plugin without removing it from your computer or uninstall it completely at any time. The plugin will remain in your Deskgrad library, allowing you to reinstall it whenever you want.

Marketplace+
Are marketplace plugins free during alpha?+

Yes. Deskgrad alpha uses a free-only marketplace. Available plugins can be added to your library with a signed-in account.

How do I add a plugin?+

Browse the marketplace and open the plugin page. Click Get Plugin to add it to your library. The server still verifies your account, product availability, moderation status, and download entitlement before the plugin appears in your inventory.

Do free plugins still use secure downloads?+

Yes. Plugin files are not public downloads. You must be signed in and have the plugin in your library before Deskgrad prepares a secure download.

Can I remove a plugin from my computer?+

Yes. You can uninstall or disable installed plugins from the Deskgrad desktop application. The plugin remains in your library so you can reinstall it later.

Will creator monetization tools return later?+

Creator monetization tools are planned after the alpha period. During alpha, creator uploads are submitted as free plugins.

Creators+
How do I become a creator?+

Anyone can apply to become a Deskgrad Creator by submitting a creator application through the website. Every application is reviewed by the Deskgrad team to help maintain the quality and security of the Marketplace. Once approved, you'll gain access to the Creator Dashboard, where you can publish and manage your plugins.

How do I publish my first plugin?+

After becoming an approved Creator, you can upload your plugin through the Creator Dashboard. Provide the required information, upload your plugin files and assets, and submit it for review. Alpha plugins are submitted as free plugins.

How does the plugin review process work?+

Every plugin submitted to the Deskgrad Marketplace is reviewed before publication. During the review process, we verify that the plugin meets our quality, security, technical, and content standards. Once approved, it becomes available for users to discover and install.

Are creator revenue tools available during alpha?+

Not yet. Revenue tools will become available after the alpha period. During alpha, creators can publish and manage free plugins, review claims, and update approved plugin versions.

Can I update my published plugins?+

Yes. You can upload new versions of your plugins at any time through the Creator Dashboard. Every update goes through the same review process before it is published, ensuring that all updates continue to meet Deskgrad's quality and security standards.
